Swimsuits are a must in order to beat the brutal Florida heat! But did you know that washing your swimsuits by hand actually makes them last longer? Or that hot tubs will damage your suits over time? Find out more helpful tips below to help them last all season long!
Tip #1: Always Be Sure to Rinse
After every use, always be sure to rinse off your swimsuits as soon as possible! After sunbathing sunscreen and body oils can damage swim suits over time. So always remember to wash them after each wear to help your suit last longer!
Tip #2: Hand Wash Your Suits
Hand washing your swimsuits can make a huge difference! I recommend that you rinse your suits with cold water and mix that with a mild detergent. Allow it to soak in the solution for roughly thirty to forty-five minutes. This way you are washing away anything that could potentially damage them such as sunscreen or chemicals or sand. After they are rinsed clean, gently squeeze out the water, but be sure to not stretch out the fabric! Over time stretching out the fabric will wear down the fibers within the suit.
Tip #3: Watch Where You Sit
Although it may not occur to you, where you sit can potentially damage your swimsuits! When sitting pool side or on any rough surface, it can harm your suits. Rough surfaces can snag or even tear them so be careful where you sit! I recommend that you lay on a towel or a blanket so that you can protect your swimsuits from all harsh surfaces.
Tip #4: Beware of Hot Tubs
Hot tubs are always a great way to relax and rewind whether you are vacationing or hanging out with friends, but watch out! Although they may seem inviting, hot tubs contain an excessive amount of chlorine and a number of other chemicals which not only damage your suits, but can stretch and fade them as well! If you can, set aside one bathing suit that you’ll wear when you go into hot tubs, that way you can protect all of your more expensive and nicer swimsuits. However, if you’re out of options and that hot tub is calling your name, try to soak your suit as soon as possible directly after you get out.
Tip #5: Switch Up Your Bathing Suits
Alternating between different swimsuits is a must in order to keep your suits in the best possible condition. After constant wear, a swim suit can become damaged or stretched over time. Try to switch between a few different suits to give them enough time to bounce back. If you’re going on vacation try to pack more than one bathing suit to help keep them in tip-top shape!
